25th December 2013

Here follows photos and captions of a Christmas full of festive cheer and traditions, from my unsuspecting family, here in England.
You may need a cuppa tea and a custard cream/mince pie to tide you over, it'll be a long one.

Thrift Finds | #1, December 2013

Call it what you want, I am a shopaholic; but I do try to be sensible with my money. At any opportunity, with mum as wing woman, I love to go rummaging the bootsales and charity shops in search of gems; eBay is also a regular source of entertainment.

Charity shop, shopping, is my favourite.
It's exciting to never know what you are going to find, that you can spend a lot less money; alongside the bonus that it's all for a good cause. There are good and bad sides to the charm of charity shops. 'One offs' = no variation on sizes/colours, and stock changes from one week to the next. My advice is, if in doubt, buy it; charity shops are great at returns these days, but do check and the desk and keep hold of your receipt. Finally, don't loose heart! Some visits will be more fruitful than others, but if you're anything like me, you'll enjoy the looking even so.

#1 : Stocking stuffer search took a turn towards self indulgence, but with no buyers regret.

Wardrobe | 'The Winter Coat' EDIT 2013

I am a sucker for coats.

Coats to me, are like shoes and bags to other girls; I cannot get enough.
Since I am quite timid with fashion, switching up my coats is how I transform my outfits

For Example:
Changing how formal I come across - e.g Blazer to Parkas
To Switch up the style - e.g cropped Leather to Duffle
Can add or dilute colour - Neutral to Bright/Neon
Create texture - Leather to Fur
And primaraly, add warmth, but I am undecided on the 'Look V Practicality' debate; really depends upon the day.

I have 3 to share, that I am particularly loving this festive season.

1. Greyish-Khaki, Mid length Coat - struggled on the name if you couldn't tell?

Video | 'Counting Stars', Cover by Becca - 16 November 2013

Near enough a month ago, I went to watch one of my best and oldest pals showcase her musical, and dance talents.

Here is her rendition of One Republic's, 'Counting Stars':

Sorry about the sound, I have tried to improve it but to no avail.

SO simple and inexpensive to create;

ideal stocking filler, to inspire any Santa's little helpers out there.

Glue - Glue gun (hot glue), art glue, super glue, etc. - preferably clear drying for aesthetics, although not imperative.
Icons - I bought mine on eBay (under fruit beads) as a group lot for 99p! You could use anything you fancy, light enough to glue on.
Blank studs and backs - Again I found on eBay, and depending on the metal, and quality of the backs, determines the cost.
I would recommend tweezers
& a surface to do it on - which may get gluey (newspaper, mat etc.).

Wardrobe | 'Crazy for CHRISTMAS JUMPERS'

Had this post on the shelf for a while, but I thought December 1st the earliest reasonable, to talk all things christmassy.

Although many of us - me included - would confess to despising funky knits at one point, I cannot even pretend to hate them now.
I consider 'Christmas jumpers' my seasonal guilty pleasure.

As the cliche states, a Christmas JUMPER was once an unwanted knitted affair, from a great aunt or granny, that often stunned with garish colours and long arms. Once a year when you were forced to wear it, the incredible itch was still there a few days later. My first follows this in some ways:

Colour | 'Be loving BURGUNDY' Deep RED,PLUM

Oxblood, maroon, burgundy, wine, claret, berry or 'reddy brown' as many men may say (including my younger brother)are all of a similar hue. Whichever way you chose to name it, it hitched a revival last year, and I for one, am not ready to let it go quite yet. Alongside rust, mustard and forest green; I find it especially gorgeous to coincide with the autumnal change in leaves.

Sporting the matching monochrome and burgundy pouts
- unplanned co-ordination.

Holiday | 'Journal' Days 3, 4 & 5, Lanzarote Oct2013

Day 3
Clocks went back, would ordinarily mean an extra hour in bed. But no, early breakie and a trip to Porta del Carmen. For a market, we failed to find. Bad idea to wear my floral dress; it was V windy!

Lovely music, from an unknown instrument. Sweet man
Nice wander and drink, managed to find some sunglasses very reasonably.

Holiday | 'Outfits of the week' - Lanzarote Oct2013

I am fully aware of the rambling that goes on in my posts; I may have got over-excited. So to switch it up, here follows a concise account of a few outfits of mine from my recent holiday in Lanzarote. Avec cheeky captions.

About the photos' quality - most were taken on my phone by Deb/ mother of mine, amateur photographer like me, as a very sweet favour; it adds to the charm, right? I decided not to retake any, or photograph outfits that I'd forgotten, so the post would be authentic.

Beauty Review | MAC Blush, 'PINK CULT'

Oh, hello CCO?
Going into a 'Cosmetics Company Outlet' took the trouble out of choosing from the mass of high-end makeup out there, I found the perfect 'me' blush.
On the cool side, making it more wearable for any season; to suit both my skin tone and fit my preference in colour. Light enough, to add to my pale skin, but not hit it with bright colour; this also made it foolproof blending-wise.
Discounted at £12.50. Still more than I would have usually paid for a blush, but only just more than an average drugstore foundation; and at £5 less than in-store, I was happy.

Name - PINK CULT (matte, pastel, cool toned pink) 6g

I am thoroughly impressed. Owned for over 5 months, and using it regularly, I have barely made a dent. Perfect amount of pigment for a blush; not too much, but also not powdery to where it won't have the lasting power. Still visible at the end of the day, I simply sweep it along my cheeks; not quite apples, not quite cheekbone, for a gorgeously natural flush. I will say that I don't enjoy the packaging, but that wouldn't put me off and it is exactly what you expect from MAC.

( Face swatch with both
natural light and table lamp light)
To anyone thinking of taking the high-end leap, in this case, it was fully worth saving up my money and splurging.

Holiday | 'A peek into my winter sun wardrobe and beauty bag', Lanzarote 2013

On the 25th of this month AKA TODAY, I'll be jetting off for a week in Lanzarote :); this is the start of my holiday series.

Lanzarote Oct2013

In general, I'm fairly unadventurous with my makeup and basic with my clothing; here's to hoping my blog will change that!

My simplistic mantra with all things fashion, echoes into my holiday wardrobe. Capsule, fewer patterns, so it is easier to make different looks with fewer pieces. As it is winter sun, I'm expecting it to be chillier in the evenings; hence the layers.

Thoughts | 'How now, brown brow'

A major insecurity of mine, are my eyebrows.

Through the nightmare of ripping a plaster and getting it stuck on my eyebrow - consequently pulling half of it off; to obsessively pluck pluck plucking them. I am a classic case of; can’t live with them, can’t live without them.

younger Amber*
Back to the plaster - A complete accident that I wouldn't want to repeat, but which actually lead to my first soirĂ©e into makeup. My mum, bless her heart, tried to draw it back on – hello Vicky Pollard! Don’t even ask what happened when it rained.

In the case of the plucking, I have always had lighter hair than eyebrows, it was more prominent with my younger blonder locks; which lead to an unsavoury nickname of ‘Hitler’ every now and then. Now, I don’t want to give the impression I was badly bullied, because I was far from; but kids have a sixth sense when it comes to others insecurities, and whether jokingly on not, can pick at it. Sometimes not just kids! Eyebrows were one of my weaknesses, as trivial as that may sound to some you, each to their own. This started my obsession with dying my hair darker to hide/take the attention away from them; and as it was the fashion, to pluck to my heart’s content.
Thin brow phase

Since I've left school, people in general are so much less concerned with such things. Looking back, I don’t regret falling for peer pressure; it made me feel more confident, a bit like when you follow a fashion. What I do regret is, letting something as small as eyebrows bother me so much - I am under no illusion that this is far far down on the scale of problem magnitude, but self confidence can have such a domino effect on other aspects of our lives. I would like to disclaim that - this post isn't about self love; I wouldn't know where to start with that.I also don't want to preach; I am no expert.
'Thoughts', is exactly as it sounds: purely everyday, personal experiences/thoughts/trials/advice from a ordinary girl, that I feel inclined and confident sharing.

My moral of this littler rant
- Something that may bother you within your looks, from your lips to your legs, most likely won’t bother others. If that is not the case, insecurities people pick at when you are younger become less and less significant in later life(more often than not, the person doing the teasing is struggling with their own problems and compensating by turning the attention away from them). Styles are always changing, and as you get older your preferences differ and opinions change; as well as other aspects of life inevitably overriding the importance of the issue.

& lastly
I would be lying if I said my brows didn't still bother me: I am/we are after all, our biggest critics. But thanks to Miss Delevingne, and the genius of eyebrow grooming, I’m starting to smile about the brows god gave me!
